The Islamic Games is scheduled for June 3-4, 2023 in Metuchen, NJ and June 25, 2023 in Toronto, Canada. The title sponsors for the 20-23 Games are United Mission for Relief (UMR) in the USA and Islamic Relief in Canada.
The flagship Games in New Jersey will feature more than 200 male and female teams in multiple age categories competing in basketball, soccer, cricket, volleyball, flag football, track & field, archery, table tennis, martial arts, strength competition and arm wrestling.
“The Games, our systems and our Committee are ready to receive and host the hundreds of teams and athletes. We have been planning on the Games since last year and we’re happy that we have a suitable venue that can accommodate the scope of the Games with ease,” commented Salaudeen Nausrudeen, Founder/President of the Islamic Games.
The venue for the USA Games is the St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen NJ, a 70+ acre campus with first class sports facilities including six basketball courts, 10+ soccer fields, two cricket fields, two football fields, upgraded gyms, newly installed track and a fully padded martial arts gym.
In addition to the sports, thousands are expected to flock to the 2-day event to enjoy a variety of ethnic foods, desserts and snacks, kids games, obstacle courses, fun activities and vendors. There is something for everyone to do.
For the first time in Canada, the Games will compete basketball and soccer for male and female in multiple age categories. The Games will be held at the GTA Sportsplex in Vaughan, ON; a new all-indoor facility large enough to host the Islamic Games.
“Since we added Toronto to our 2023 calendar, the response from Canadians has been heart-warming. We knew the Games was going to be a hit because Canadians, we know, love and are very much involved in sports,” said Mr. Nausrudeen.
He added,” While we are doing basketball and soccer this year, Canadians should get ready for the full offering of the Islamic Games in 2024, inshallah.”
Islamic Games started more than twenty-five years ago and has been a staple platform for Muslim communities and schools to meet, compete and have an enjoyable time. The Games is one of the most diverse events and represents a full spectrum of the Muslim world. More than 40 nationalities, 60+ Muslim communities/organizations and more than 20 Islamic Schools are represented at the Games.
The Islamic Games was conceptualized and developed to provide an atmosphere for Muslim teams and athletes to come together compete, learn and enjoy the brotherhood of each other. More significantly, the Islamic Games provides a platform for Muslim girls and women to compete without compromising their values.
